Skip to content Skip to content Getting your Trinity Audio player ready… A new series from the “Archer” and “Frisky Dingo” team is coming to HBO . The network has ordered two seasons of “Merrick & Treves,” a new half-hour animated comedy that is co-created and executive produced by Adam Reed, Casey Willis and Lucky Yates.
If you thought the world of animated comedy was done surprising us, think again! HBO has just thrown a curveball our way with a two-season order for Merrick & Treves, the latest brainchild from the talented team behind Archer. Yes, you heard that right—time travel, Victorian England, and a historical figure known as ‘The Elephant Man’ are all on the menu. Grab your top hats and prepare for a bumpy ride!
So what’s this show all about? Picture this: a half-hour comedy series that takes us deep into the heart of Queen Victoria’s Royal Temporal Constabulary. Sounds fancy, right? It’s like the British equivalent of a time-traveling police squad, but with more tea and less high-speed chases. The main goal? To prevent the notorious Jack the Ripper from wreaking havoc in the streets of Whitechapel. I mean, who wouldn’t want to meddle in history and stop a serial killer? Talk about a heroic job description!
The show draws inspiration from Joseph Merrick, famously known as ‘The Elephant Man.’ If you’re not familiar, Merrick was a real person who lived in the late 19th century and faced unimaginable challenges due to his physical appearance. His story is an emotional rollercoaster, and it seems like Merrick & Treves will weave in some of that historical depth while serving up the laughs. Because, you know, nothing says comedy like a Victorian-era tragedy!
But let’s talk about the creators for a second. Adam Reed, Casey Willis, and Lucky Yates are no strangers to the world of adult animation. They’ve been whipping up laughs and occasionally raising eyebrows with Archer for years. If their past work is any indication, we can expect Merrick & Treves to be packed with sharp wit, clever one-liners, and perhaps a few absurd situations that will make us question our life choices.
And hey, who doesn’t love a good time travel plot? It’s like the writers have decided to throw every imaginable historical figure into a blender and hit ‘puree.’ Just imagine the conversations they’ll have while trying to figure out how to save lives from a guy with a penchant for sharp implements. I can already see the awkward encounters with Queen Victoria herself!
Now, we’ve got two seasons to look forward to, which means there’s plenty of room for character development and maybe even some plot twists that will have us scratching our heads. Will Merrick and Treves bond over time-traveling hijinks, or will they end up bickering like siblings on a long car ride? Only time will tell! (See what I did there?)
In a world where we often find ourselves scrolling through endless streaming options, Merrick & Treves seems to promise a unique blend of historical context and laugh-out-loud comedy that could be just what we need. So, mark your calendars and prepare your streaming devices; this animated series is bound to be a wild ride through the past, complete with all the humor and heart we’ve come to expect from the Archer team.
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a show that mixes the macabre with the hilarious, Merrick & Treves might just be your new guilty pleasure. Let’s just hope they don’t take themselves too seriously while trying to tackle such serious subjects. After all, if we can’t laugh about time-traveling to stop a serial killer, then what’s the point? Stay tuned for more updates, and get ready to hop on this time machine—HBO is taking us on an adventure we didn’t know we needed!
