Well, folks, it seems that not all naval drills go according to plan. In a rather tragic turn of events, Kazakhstan’s Defense Ministry has confirmed that nine servicemen have lost their lives after being swept out to sea during a naval exercise in the Mangystau region. I mean, when you sign up for naval drills, you expect some splashes and maybe a little sea spray, not a full-on aquatic disaster.
So, what happened? Apparently, Mother Nature decided to throw a tantrum, and strong winds combined with deteriorating weather conditions took 19 personnel on an unexpected swim in the Caspian Sea. It’s safe to say that swimming was probably not on the agenda for this exercise. Out of the 19 swept away, three were rescued, but the search and rescue operations are still underway for several others.
